Automa begins a new chapter in its journey with the signing of an agreement for its potential entry into the ecosystem of DNV, a global group of Norwegian origin and an international reference in risk management, certification, quality assurance and solutions for the energy transition. The deal was officially announced by DNV on its global website, reinforcing the vision of expanding, on an international scale, the offering of digital solutions for the energy sector.
The transaction is subject to approval by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) and to the fulfillment of customary closing conditions, and represents a strategic step toward expanding the international reach of the digital solutions developed by Automa over nearly two decades.
The move reflects a shared vision of the challenges facing the global power sector, which is becoming increasingly complex as renewable sources scale up and new generation and distribution models take hold. In 2024, global investments in the energy transition reached R$ 2.1 trillion, almost double the volume directed to fossil fuels. With the global commitment to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030, the challenge is no longer just about investment and now involves the ability to monitor, control and operate increasingly distributed and intermittent systems, making digitalization a central factor for efficiency, reliability and resilience.
For DNV, the potential deal represents an opportunity to strengthen its digital capabilities across the entire energy system, connecting its global expertise to highly specialized technical competencies developed by Automa in Brazil. According to Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO of DNV, the acceleration of the energy transition makes digitalization a critical enabler for building more reliable, efficient and sustainable energy systems, and the integration of Automa’s advanced capabilities with DNV’s global knowledge can create digital solutions capable of supporting customers in managing the sector’s growing complexity and capturing new growth opportunities.
The strategy of the deal, if approved, provides for Automa to maintain its culture, the leadership of its founders and its brand, with the signature "a DNV company." The move represents the company’s entry into a global ecosystem that broadens its technical level and its possibilities for action, with the endorsement of a highly relevant group, while keeping the focus on the agility and service excellence of the Brazilian company.
Founded in Brazil in 2006, Automa built a leadership position in the Brazilian power sector and is today responsible for the monitoring and control of approximately 60 GW of installed capacity. Throughout its journey, the company has delivered more than 1,000 projects and, in 2024 alone, its solutions helped avoid the emission of more than 35 thousand tons of CO₂ by increasing the operational efficiency of the monitored energy systems.
In recent years, this growth was also driven by the entry of GEF Capital Partners as an investor in Automa, strengthening its structure and supporting the company’s preparation for a new expansion cycle, which includes accelerating its internationalization strategy, with projects already implemented in European markets.
For Marcelo Ferreira, CEO of Automa, the agreement represents a relevant step in the company’s journey. The initiative can connect the experience built in Brazil and Europe to a global ecosystem of knowledge and technology, expanding Automa’s capacity to generate positive impact in the energy sector and to support its customers with the challenges of the energy transition.
